Week 5 - Multimedia

I investigated photosharing, since that's likely to be the first thing I would try to do if and when I have reason and time. Actually, after a family reunion this summer, my cousin said she would start a Photobucket for everyone to put their photos in to share, but I never heard that it had been created. Guess I should check back. I'll have to find out if the camera we have can connect directly to the computer, but I don't think so. The one we have at the library does, so I'll try that sometime soon.

Week 4 - Instant Messaging

I have been IMing for a long time, both at home with family and friends (not nearly as much as my teenagers, who have been known to have 6 IM conversations going on at once), and for IM Reference service.

I would like to use it at work. Is that even allowed yet? I agree with what the articles and research say: that it would actually increase productivity by cutting down social time and tangents associated with phoning and face-to-face conversations.

Week 3 - Wikis

Well, I've learned over the years to accept Wikipedia for what it's worth--and now I have contributed to it! That's quite empowering.

However, my skepticism about personal info on the web kept me from entering an e-mail address when I created my account--not extreme skepticism, just care, the desire to avoid overloading my inbox, and not being sure whether to use my work or personal e-mail address. Now I'd like to add one (still not sure which one), but I can't find out how to modify my account to add it.

There is another wiki I use regularly. I still get sidetracked sometimes when I use it, but I am comfortable with it.

I'm still behing on Learning 2.0, but forging on!

RSS Resolved

I went back through some of the early steps, and, by jove, I think I've got it!

Week 2 - RSS revisited

AND do I have to go to Google Reader to look at the feeds or are they actually sent to me? How do I remember to do that? At home, I can maybe put something on my AOL toolbar, but I'm not sure what I can do at work. Just put a shortcut on my desktop and try to remember?

Week 2 - RSS

It seems as if I have to fumble around a bit when I go to a new thing like this. I have signed up for RSS feeds from VBPL Talks and Inside VBPL, and it seems easier to go from the website you want. Actually, those send messages to my e-mail, and I am not sure if that is the way the new ones I set up will work. I have heard people refer to "getting things from my Google reader" or something along those lines. I am going to have to ask one of my co-workers who has been through this whole thing and is more savvy about it.

Also, when I went to one website I am very interested in, it said I could get a free Yahoo! log in (not e-mail account) to be notified when there are updates. I don't know if that's the same thing or not. Maybe it is, but through Yahoo! instead of Google.

Week 1 - Blogs

Well, this is actually my second time through the early parts of Learning 2.0, so I am using the blog I set up last winter. It took a bit of refreshing (and resetting the password) to get back into it, though. Maybe I will have to start a personal one or a family one, as a co-worker has done. Then I'll use it more and it will stick.
